Since I didn't feel the need to write about any of my shows separately this week, Sunday feels like the perfect time to talk about all of them! (I think I also need something to distract me from the fact that there are no Emmys tonight. I haven't usually watched big awards shows for the last few years, but I had a lot of fun with it last week!)

For now this includes How I Met Your Mother, Castle, Parks and Recreation, The Office, and Doctor Who as far as favourite shows that are currently airing go. And I haven't tried a whole lot of pilots yet, but I have given Up All Night, Free Agents (US), and New Girl a go, so I have some thoughts on those too. Naturally, there are spoilers ahead.

And that's it for last week. I might try a few more pilots this week (I just downloaded Revenge, and I intend to give Terra Nova a go), but other than that, I'm still waiting for Chuck to come back, and for the final three serials of The Sarah Jane Adventures to begin airing. (At which point I will be a mess.)

I'll actually be amazed if there's anyone else who's watched both SJA and (the live action version of) TanQ, so this probably won't be of interest to anyone. But it occurred to me that Luke and Kyuu, the boy genius and the boy detective, have a similar charm (as do Tommy and Kamiki) and I suddenly had to write something. Warning for shameless use of a Doctor/Rose reference because I just let myself have fun with this. (Also, I set this in Japan because I figured it'd make sense that Luke could pick up languages easily.)

wonder boys; luke smith (the sarah jane adventures)/kyuu renjou (tantei gakuen q - live action); pg; in which luke, while at oxford, hears word of suspicious alien activity in tokyo and arrives to find he's not the only one investigating.

More of me playing around with the Pete's World!versions of characters. First attempt at mixing it up with Torchwood and SJA characters. (Yeah, posting these out of order...bit of a fic dump this morning. I need to start actually posting these to comms, but getting them on my journal at all is this first step.)

first day; owen and rani (friendship); pg

It is late at night and I have a lot of things on my mind and I need to go to bed but FUCK.

This is hardly going to be my complete, coherent thoughts on the episode or anything, but I have some stuff to say anyway.

I feel like the progression from the general story of the fifth series to that of the sixth makes a lot of sense. At its most basic, the fifth series was about the Doctor and a girl, and the sixth series is about the Doctor and a family. The fifth series was about the Doctor's impact on the life of one girl (and that one girl's impact on the universe), and the sixth series is about his impact on her entire family. The fifth series was all about Amy's life being messed around with, and the sixth series is about the Pond family being messed around with.

(I think I'm over the idea of using my old fic journal now because it's not a paid account and this is, and I have all my icons and stuff here.

Also, can anyone tell me why LJ's suddenly increased the space between paragraphs when I hit enter so I have to manually add a bunch of paragraph tags now to make things look right? ffs and stop telling me about this cut wizard THAT'S NOT WHAT I'M TRYING TO EDIT HERE. LJ is being as annoying as Tumblr right now.)

I’ve been thinking about Owen and Tosh being together in Pete’s World ever since I read a Rose/TenII fic that very briefly touched on them working at Torchwood and being married, so this is just me messing around with that idea a little.

Spoiler warning for this week's Torchwood )

I could really use some more Torchwood icons. Sailor Mars has nothing to do with this entry, but she looks like a badass and this entry is about badass people. Yup.

Already Torchwood Friday again, huh? The last couple of weeks have both flown by. At first I was waiting to watch Miracle Day as it aired on Space a day late each week, but last week I downloaded it on Friday night just for the hell of it; I was going to watch this week's episode tonight, too, but I'm getting sleepy, so I think I'll hold off until tomorrow. So yeah, not a Torchwood reaction post.

You know, before I was just wondering where people like Martha and Mickey are supposed to be during the Miracle, but now that I've finished SJA I have even more characters to be concerned about. What the hell are those kids supposed to be doing in all this? Just because the entire world has gone to shit in Miracle Day, I like to think that some future regeneration of the Doctor comes along and takes Luke, Clyde, Rani and even Maria off on adventures until the Miracle's over. Headcanon makes me feel better. Anyway, I kind of assume that RTD wouldn't kill off any past companions or anyone offscreen during huge worldwide Torchwood events, but even so, it's strange to think about.

There's also the fact that Children of Earth was never mentioned on SJA, although it happened between the second and third series. I get why the kids' spinoff wouldn't refer to Torchwood events (though I saw a cap of a newspaper clipping about Bilis in Sarah Jane's attic, but that's pretty minor), but not only was CoE a huge alien event, it affected all the children in the world specifically. (Ironic, I guess, that "children" is in the title of one Whoniverse series most kids wouldn't be allowed to watch.) Though the SJA kids are too old to have been affected by it themselves, they still would've been aware of and shaken by the event, so it's a bit unfortunate that they couldn't make some kind of reference to it. Understandable, but unfortunate.

I'll wait until the end of Miracle Day to try to figure all this out, because maybe some of my questions will be answered by then, but I hope that if they aren't, someone bugs RTD about this in an interview or something.

I went shopping today and got the issue of Sci Fi Magazine with Tennant on the cover and The Sarah Jane Companion Vol. 2. Also creeped on a guy who looked at the complete Torchwood box set at HMV, but he didn't seem to notice. The only solid plan I have for tomorrow is to go get my eyebrows done, but other than that I'll probably watch Torchwood and some classic Who. Might wind up going to the movies or something. There are a number of movies out now that I want to see - Captain America, 30 Minutes or Less, Crazy Stupid Love, and especially Harry Potter. Still haven't seen that, and I keep getting shot down when I ask friends to go see it with me. It's been out for weeks now, though, so I really need to get on that.
